About

Einstein a Go Go is a radio science show broadcast weekly (weakly?) on Triple R FM 102.7 MHz in Melbourne, Australia.  Our mission is science communication. Our aim is to discuss science and science-related issues in a friendly and accessible manner. In practice, this results in an energetic and entertaining interaction between the presenters, guests, and listeners, with a liberal sprinkling of science along the way.

Triple R FM is a community radio station whose income derives mainly from listener subscriptions. We are volunteers who offer our time for free. Why? Because we are passionate about science and about communicating it to the public. Hopefully we can inspire the same sort of wonder and excitement in others that we feel about our profession.

Background

Einstein a Go Go began in 1990 when a group of Melbourne University students decided that it was time for the existing high-brow science radio shows to be thrown into stark relief. Community radio station 3RRR FM was the perfect place for an alternative approach to mainstream science. The show has evolved over the years, through several changes of personnel, into a popular show with an alarmingly large audience. The presenters are a mixture of research scientists, science students and people in science-related fields.

Format

Each hour-long show normally contains a mixture of news items, detailed articles, historical perspectives, interviews, and general scientific gossip. This is interspersed with musical interludes representative of the eclectic tastes of scientists. Essentially all fields of science are covered (even forensic entomology!), with occasional dabbles into related disciplines such as engineering, computing, philosophy and politics.
